It felt like the Oscars came so quickly this year! To be honest, I was not prepared at all. I had only seen one of the nominated movies when I usually get quite a few under my belt. That may have been what contributed to my boredom of the show this year. However, the red carpet did not disappoint. I appreciated all the variety this year. Colour, metallics, cuts, vintage, etc.
Here are my favourite looks of the night.
Gal Gadot in Givenchy
I am such a sucker for a roaring 20’s flapper-inspired look (I have so many dresses and skirts with tassels). Her hair up and off her face ensured that big beautiful Tiffany necklace was seen all the way in the nosebleeds of the Dolby Theatre. Definitely my number one pick of the night.
Nicole Kidman – Armani Privé
I. Just. Can’t. Structured dresses like this make me feel some type of way. I wish my goosebumps could speak for themselves because I have no words other than I am utterly in love with this look (and Nicole Kidman in general). This is one of my favourite colours because almost everyone can pull it off. Nicole absolutely stole the show in this dress.
Greta Gerwig in Rodarte
I’m sure directors are more comfortable behind the camera rather than in front, but the Lady Bird director (aka first female director to ever be nominated at the Oscars), shined in this colourful frock. Credit is due when someone pulls off yellow; not everyone can. Well done Greta!
Octavia Spencer in Brandon Maxwell
I may be a sucker for 20’s inspired dresses, but a close second is jewelled tones. Jewelled tone dresses just scream regal elegance. This dress is so beautiful on her and off the shoulder dresses are so flattering. Octavia never has a bad red carpet moment.
If you can rock a dress that you wore 55 years ago, hell yeah you’re getting on my best-dressed list. I honestly think it looks better than the first time she wore it. Like a good wine, better with age.
I love a theme, so I wanted to highlight them as well.
Colour, colour, colour.
Women In White
Until next year folks!
