It’s the most wonderful time of the year: Award Season! Nothing encourages me to get blogging more than a ‘Best Dressed’ list. Now, to be honest I haven’t seen the actual award show yet. I worked last night when it aired and am waiting until tomorrow to watch it with the bestie (the way award shows are meant to be watched). But you better believe I spent any time I had updating all social media feeds to see the fabulous frocks.
The trend on the red carpet was definitely winter whites, and shining silvers. I was certainly drawn to all of those beautiful gowns. Now, for my best and worst dressed picks of the night.
Amy Adams in Versace
Every dress, and every award show, Amy Adams is always at the top of my best dressed lists. She doesn’t just make me appreciate a good dress and a good fit, but she stops me right in my tracks every time I see her walk the red carpet. This dress is such a classic look and fits her to perfection, and she has accessorized it perfectly with Tiffany & Co. jewels. Win win win.
Emma Stone in Lanvin
Loves me a good jump suit! So trendy, so appropriate, so on point! I can also appreciate that sometimes a girl just wants to wear pants! Emma looks so sexy and confident in this jump suit. Why not have a little fun with fashion before you bring out the big guns for the Oscars?
Eliie Kemper in Naeem Khan
See, I love the silver dresses from last night. I was torn between this and Reece Witherspoon in her white/silver fitted Calvin Klein dress. I just loved all detailed bead work in this Naeem Khan dress though. I find with silver dresses it’s easy to look washed out, but Ellie’s make up and beautiful red hair complimented the whole look.
Felicity Jones in Dior
I don’t always go for bigger, princess style dresses but this dress was just so beautiful! This is one of my all time favourite colours, in addition to the perfect structure and pleating, it came together harmoniously.
Kate Hudson in Versace
Excuse me while I pick my jaw up off the ground. Kate Hudson always opts for sexy dresses, and why wouldn’t you if you looked like her? Sometimes, dresses just speak for themselves and this is one of them. Love the dress, love Kate Hudson, case and point.
Giuliana Rancic in Maria Lucia Hohan
Oh poor girl looks hungry. Too skinny, and too tanned just did not let this dress do anything for her. When I give the dress a good look I don’t hate it, I just hate it on her.
Lana Del Ray
Hey Lana, how’s Ariel and King Triton doing? This colour is NEVER okay. It should be saved for clothing of unborn infants whose gender is to remain unknown until birth. Lana, you have the Grammy’s to attempt redemption.
Jemima Kirke in Rosie Assoulin
No, your eyes have not deceived you, that is a caped crop top. With a god-awful unstructured skirt to “match”. I don’t think she can quite separate her own style from that of her character Jessa’s style. If you watch Girls you would agree that Jessa would wear something like this. Ugh, it hurts my eyes.
Keira Knightly in Chanel
In her defence, I don’t think anybody could pull this dress off successfully. It looks like someone took a mosquito net from a cabin in the rainforest and sewed it together with your grandmothers bed skirt. Maybe it’s baby brain?
Ruth Wilson in Prada
Again, my biggest issue here is the colour. Unless you’re Kermit the Frog, no, you can’t pull it off.
