In the fashion world, you are relevant for about 12 hours after something like an award show for any sort of best-dressed list. Good thing my Mum is the only one who finds me relevant.
Only two people on the red carpet this year really took my breath away. I didn’t think there was a whole lot of bad but there wasn’t a whole lot of great either. Just meh.
Margot Robbie in Gucci
I mean really! My jaw dropped when I saw this look. Every single thing is absolutely perfect. The emerald detailing in her dress picks up her eye colour and shoes impeccably. My number one look of the night.
Lupita Nyong’o in Ralph Lauren
Coming in by only a hair as my second favourite is this gorgeous, simple, elegant Ralph Lauren number. This is reminiscent of the Tom Ford dress that Gwyneth Paltrow wore to the 2012 Oscars. I obviously love this silhouette and cape look because Gwyneth was one of my best dressed ladies of that year too. Lupita knocked it out of the park with this one and she is certainly on everyones radar now.
Cate Blanchett in Armani Prive
This dress is so unique and I’m so happy that her hair, make-up, and jewellery were perfectly styled so it didn’t take away from the dress. I found myself looking at close up photos to see if there was even as much as a hair out of place. There wasn’t. She’s flawless.
Julianna Margulies in Andrew Gn
In an interview Julianna said that this dress was made for one place – she was right. This is what a Golden Globes gown looks like. Again, I’m so in love with the accessorizing, and hair, and the way the whole look came together. Her glam team should be singing sweet victory.
Reese Witherspoon in Calvin Klein
I always find myself struggling between two people for the last place on my best dressed list. This time, it was a toss up between Reese Witherspoon in Calvin Klein and Elisabeth Moss in J.Mendel. While I thought Elisabeth’s dress was very glamourous I took Reese for the beautiful, simplicity of her Calvin Klein dress. This dress was truly made for her and fits like a glove. I think it’d be very difficult for anyone else to pull off this colour; but just look at her eyes! I’m happy to see her looking so good since we don’t see her on the big screen much lately.
Julia Roberts in Dolce and Gabbana
I don’t think I need to say much, you all know what is wrong with this. Julia, do yourself a favour and hire a new stylist immediately.
Sandra Bullock in Prabal Gurgung
Me no likey. This is one of those looks where I know I don’t like it but can’t quite put my finger on it. I think it is too young for her. The silhouette is actually really flattering, maybe someone like Jennifer Lawrence could’ve pulled it off better. A flop in my books though.
Zoe Saldana in Prabal Gurung
Mr. Gurgung is just not doing it for me. When asked about her dress, she said that when Prabal made it he said he couldn’t see anyone but Zoe Saldana wearing it. Maybe that is because anyone else would’ve told him ‘fat chance!’. I hate when dresses have too much going on. It’s too bad, she’s such a beautiful girl.
Paula Patton in Stephanie Rolland
Well, if you want to turn heads, this is how you do it. Someone on Twitter said “Paula Patton over watered her dress before leaving her house”. I got a good laugh out of that one. The thing is, I actually really like the dress it’s just less Golden Globes, more MET Ball.
Bernice Bejo in Giambattista Valli
Literally looks like she is wearing the red carpet. The bodice ruins the dress too, it looks like there is a vest over the dress. Good thing she stayed under the radar for the night.
Ahh, I forgot how much I enjoyed doing this. Thanks to everyone who was asking for this post and reads it, makes for a fun hobby :)
